MSLA 2024
The MSLA conference was a wonderful experience! I was overwhelmed with the offerings and honestly had a hard time choosing which sessions to attend. I’m hoping to poke around Sched more and look into sessions I was unable to attend.
The keynote by Kekla Magoon was stellar! I found her message incredibly empowering. Her vast knowledge and commitment to her work and vision was inspiring. I can’t wait to dive into her books. When I returned to my home library I saw we had The Season of Styx Malone waiting to be processed =). I’m very new to my role so I am just learning all the books in our collection.
Elementary Library Lessons and Projects with Alex Caram
This was amazing! Alex packed this session with so many incredible ideas. In my conference experiences I’ve always most enjoyed the ones that provide me with ideas I can bring back and implement with students. Alex for sure did this! She teaches a fixed schedule in an elementary school. I was definitely jealous of her schedule! We do not have that in my district and hearing the wonderful things she does in her library makes me want to advocate more for fixed library time!
The Ripple Effects of Book Challenges and How to Move Forward
Wow Wow Wow! No words for Kerry Cowell’s honesty on the actual horror she went through during a book challenge. I recently heard (and have experienced) that we grow out of our comfort zones. Kerry was a true example of this. But in the face of a book challenge she showed us how to be brave, bold and not back down.
News Literacy in the Age of AI
We are in a wild time. AI is growing at amazing and alarming rates. I sometimes wonder if we will be actually living the movie “Terminator” at some point. This session provided wonderful resources to teach students how to live in this AI world and have a scrutinizing eye on what is real and not. This is another session I will be returning to the notes for content in the future.
Building Multilingual Libraries
This session was awesome! I will for sure be emailing the three Framingham librarians for all things world language titles for our library collections. They were incredibly open to share and support which is what education is all about!
I was super impressed by the whole event!
I look forward to next year and plan to do the two days!
